Social Structure
The Cherokees lived in a matriarchal society, generally the power between women and men was equal.
Men were usually in charge of hunting, war, and diplomacy and the women handled farming, property and family. But females were allowed significant social and sexual freedom, back in the ancient times. In those times children always grew up in the mothers house and it was the mothers brother's duty to teach boys how to hunt and other duty's. The women owned the the houses and everything in it and if a wife ever wanted to divorce her husband she simply had to put all his things outside the house. The women also learned how to be warriors and healers , they were also taught how to weave baskets , tell story's, trade and dance.
