Political Structure
The Cherokees are three federally recognized tribes :
Each Cherokee tribe has its own governments, laws, police, and services. Even though they are able to create their own laws they have to obey their tribes laws but as well as the United States laws as well.
In the past they were led by one war chief and one peace chief. The people who were chosen for these roles were decided by the tribe council. Cherokee war chiefs could only be a male but a peace chief could be a women as well as a male. But the women were in charge of farming , property and family and the men were in charge of political decisions for the tribe.
